Circle Fellowship is involved in a number of special activities some of which are special Sunday morning services, while others are separate events.
October 31st, El Día de los Muertos or Day of the Dead is an honoring of our ancestors, both personal and institutional. With a special alter designed by our own Grace Starke with the help of interested members, and sharing of stories about both our personal ancestors and our lost Fellowship members, this is a very special celebration!
November, Sunday before Thanksgiving - Thanksgiving Seder. Modeled on the Jewish Seder, this is a celebration of our UU history and beliefs
as a series of commentaries read by
the participants. Near the end we
pause the readings to
have our Thanksgiving dinner, and then we resume our readings and finish the
Seder.
December - Last program before Christmas - Holiday Sing-a-long, typically includes readings, poetry, and performance in addition to Christmas and Pagan carols, and the requisite performance of the Dar Williams song, The Christians and the Pagans. We do not meet the Sunday between Christmas and New Years, but return on the Sunday following New Years.
Easter, Maestro Brett Terrell and the Jordan College of Fine Arts Guitar Ensemble bring us classical and modern guitar music for our enjoyment.
First Sunday in May - Annual Meeting, Pitch-In and
Beltane Celebration/Maypole Dance - This makes a full and fun day,
starting out a little serious and getting more fun as we
go, with
much hilarity as the ribbons get shorter and tighter to the pole and
the music gets faster!
Summer Programs - Spirit of Life Workshops This summer will see our second series of programs on a particular topic. Last Summer we took a Membership Journey, learning about the things we need to do to get and keep new members. This coming summer we will be doing the nine part workshop Spirit of Life. Based on the lines of the song Spirit of Life, the workshop will be a delightful addition to our summer! Click here to learn more about this delightful program!
Music - We generally have at least two major musical events
not on a Sunday morning at the Fellowship house
each year. Our meeting room provides an acoustically excellent space that
musicians love. Our Women Folk concert had an overflow crowd and our concert
featuring Mandolin Indy also had an excellent turnout. And our Mario
(pictured at left) and Friends concert was also much enjoyed! We also have the occasional
music jam on the back deck during good weather or in the meeting room in
the winter.
Fellowship also sponsors, in conjunction with UUI (Unitarian Universalist Church of Indianapolis) the Indy Folks Series. Because of the large crowds that the Indy Folk Series draws, these concerts are held at UUI.
Summer Retreat - Fellowship also has it's annual summer retreat. We have been experimenting lately, with last year's retreat being longer, over Labor Day weekend. This year we will be back to the first weekend in June (6-8). The retreat runs Friday evening through Sunday and features great food, lots of music, interesting conversation, swimming, hiking, singing, canoeing, workshops, crafts including stenciling clothing, and what ever other fun things we can find to do.
Additional Activities - We also find the occasional additional summer activity. These have included in the past Connor Prairie, Indiana State Museum, Canal Walk, Eiteljorg, Indianapolis Museum of Art, Symphony in the park and Symphony on the Prairie, raspberry parties (when the raspberries get ripe) and the occasional canoe trip.
